A person claims that their wrist was burned by a Samsung Galaxy Watch while they were sleeping. The post, which displayed the individual’s burn injury, was shared by a user named TheMattsterOfSelf in the Reddit community 'WellThatSucks.' In the comments, the user stated that the watch was a Galaxy Watch 'Active 2 44mm Bluetooth,' which they had been using to manage insomnia for some time. The user also mentioned that the resulting marks from the incident were third-degree burns— the type that extends into the fatty layer beneath the dermis. The user noted that they had not applied any type of skin creams and were taking sleeping medications, which is why they did not feel the burns until late at night. Several other Reddit users also reported similar issues while wearing this model of Samsung smartwatch. Although wearable devices like FitBit, Samsung Watch, and Apple Watch are better known for tracking heart rates after high intensity periods, millions of people also use them to track sleep. Samsung smartwatches have previously been involved in wrist burns. An investigation is looking into a potential class-action lawsuit concerning other reports of Galaxy Watches causing burns and injuries. Earlier this year, Fitbit recalled 1.7 million of its Ionic smartwatches after 118 users were injured due to overheating— with two-thirds sustaining third-degree burns. In that case, owners received a $299 refund and discounts on future purchases. The problems were caused by overheating lithium-ion batteries in the smartwatch. The Daily Mail reached out to Samsung for comment.
