Thousands of Nigeriens protested today, Saturday, in a demonstration in the capital, Niamey, against the U.S. military presence in their country. Civil society organizations called for people to take to the streets to demand the departure of U.S. troops from the country. The crowds chanted slogans against the 1,100 American soldiers stationed on Nigerien soil, most of whom are based at the Agadez Air Base in the north of the country.
