The Sierra Leone government stated, "Security forces repelled an attack by 'dissident soldiers' who attempted to storm a military weapons depot in Freetown during the early hours of yesterday, Sunday, which led to gunfire in several residential neighborhoods." In a statement to Reuters, a spokesperson for the Sierra Leone army confirmed that "20 people, including 13 soldiers, were killed in yesterday's attack." For his part, President Julius Maada Bio said that "most of the leaders of the attack have been arrested," adding that "security operations continue to apprehend others and investigations are ongoing."
