Grasshopper enthusiasts in Saudi Arabia have come up with new cooking and preparation methods at home, including the inexpensive "grasshopper burger." A video documented a cooking method for grasshoppers at the start of the season in the Qassim region of Saudi Arabia. Fahd Al-Anzi, a local from Qassim, explained the cooking process, emphasizing that grasshoppers offer numerous benefits. He mentioned that they are cooked alive in water, followed by various additions such as onions, oil, and others, while some prefer to eat them with lettuce. Others have created the grasshopper burger, which consists of the famous burger bun, grasshopper, onions, ketchup, and other varying additions depending on individual preferences. Grasshoppers are currently abundant in areas like Medina and Qassim, considered the preferred locations for enthusiasts who claim they produce the tastiest types of grasshoppers. However, the kingdom still lacks restaurants that serve grasshopper dishes. Specialists have warned against consuming grasshoppers that have been treated with pesticides, as doing so may expose consumers to poisoning from these chemicals, which can remain in the bodies of dead grasshoppers even after cooking.
