The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division has issued the following statement: The rate of significant crimes decreased in 2022 compared to 2021, despite the severe economic crisis in Lebanon, which heavily impacts the living conditions of the Internal Security Forces personnel, including officers, sergeants, and soldiers. This is in addition to the decline in their salaries, shortages in personnel, and logistical needs. However, the efforts of the members of this national institution remain unwavering, and they will not hesitate to pursue and apprehend criminals. They continue to fulfill their duties, regardless of the escalating crises and sacrifices. In this context, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces is disseminating a statistical table regarding some major felonies and misdemeanors (murder, robbery, car theft, armed robbery, aggravated theft, pickpocketing, etc.) over the mentioned years, which indicates this decline, while incidents of pickpocketing have increased by an average of 2.86%.
