Egypt and the European Union Sign Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen signed a joint declaration between Egypt and the European Union to elevate their relations to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership. President el-Sisi received Ursula von der Leyen today, Sunday, on the sidelines of the Egypt-EU summit, which discussed several areas of bilateral cooperation, primarily the anticipated signing of the joint political declaration document to launch the enhancement of relations between Egypt and the EU to the level of "comprehensive strategic partnership."

Egypt is expecting a financial and investment support package from the European Union amounting to 7.4 billion euros following months of negotiations, aimed at supporting its economy in the face of potential risks from surrounding conflicts in Gaza and Sudan. This includes concessional loans of 5 billion euros, additional investments of 1.8 billion euros, and a grant of 600 million euros.

European aid to Egypt falls within a series of EU agreements with North African countries such as Tunisia and Mauritania, aimed at avoiding economic instability in the region due to the war in Gaza, as well as preventing illegal immigration from Africa.
