The Swedish police have opened an investigation after drones were spotted flying over nuclear facilities in the southern part of the country. A Swedish academic stated that "Russia is behind this incident," which has been reported. The Swedish police mentioned that flying objects were observed at several locations at night in the Skåne region, with media reports indicating that these locations include an area near a nuclear power plant and Malmö Airport. A police spokesperson said, "I cannot confirm any specific locations," noting that authorities have documented the reports and will examine them.
The spokesperson clarified that investigators are looking into "potential violations of flight regulations," as well as "security regulations," although it remains unclear whether a drone was indeed involved in these violations. The spokesperson referenced information published by the "TT" Swedish news agency, suggesting that the investigations will include "possible connections with a foreign entity," and added, "It is too early to determine this... At this stage, we must first analyze what we have seen."
The Swedish website "Kommers" noted speculation connecting the incident to Sweden's recent accession to NATO. A television channel quoted a researcher from the Swedish Defense University, Magnus Christianson, stating, "There is a threat associated with international politics." It is worth mentioning that no entity has yet claimed responsibility for this incident.
