Ukrainian authorities announced today, Sunday, that Ukraine and Poland will open an additional border crossing for empty trucks tomorrow, Monday, to establish a necessary route for Kyiv, as some crossings are currently closed due to demonstrations organized by Polish drivers for weeks. The Ukrainian border administration stated that the Oryniv border crossing, currently operating for passenger vehicles and buses, will be open from 1:00 AM (midnight GMT) tomorrow, Monday, for heavy empty vehicles with a total allowed weight of over 7.5 metric tons. They added: "Opening the Oryniv crossing is the first point in the list of measures being implemented to open the borders, reduce queues, and increase capacity at the Ukraine-Poland border." These protests regarding what Polish truck drivers consider unfair competition from their Ukrainian counterparts began on November 6, and protestors are currently blockading four border crossings. The main demand of Polish truck drivers is to prevent Ukrainian truck drivers from entering the European Union without a permit, which Kyiv and Brussels say is impossible.
