Denis Pushilin, the Russian-appointed head of the Donetsk region, stated on Sunday that 13 people were killed and ten others injured after Ukrainian forces shelled the city of Donetsk, located in eastern Ukraine and under Russian control. There has been no comment from Ukraine regarding the incident. Alexey Kolmizin, the mayor of Donetsk appointed by Russia, reported that Ukrainian forces targeted a crowded area that included shops and a market. Pushilin indicated that emergency teams are working at the shelling site, and specialists are also trying to gather fragments of the weapons used in the attack. Donetsk is one of four Ukrainian regions that Russia unilaterally declared it annexed last year, a move condemned by most countries in the United Nations General Assembly as illegal. Russia does not have complete control over any of the four regions.
