The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division reported today, Wednesday, that "as a result of the continuous monitoring by the specialized units in the Internal Security Forces to curb drug smuggling operations, to and from Lebanon, which are planned and executed by international networks, verified information was received by the Information Branch about one of these networks preparing to smuggle a quantity of hashish hidden within a shipment of thyme, sumac, and kashk bags to one of the European countries via Beirut International Airport."
It stated, "Immediately, the specialized units in the branch began their investigative and technical procedures to uncover the individuals in the mentioned network, determine the location of the shipment, and seize it before it was transported to the airport. As a result of thorough inquiries and investigations conducted by patrols from the branch, they were able to identify the warehouse in the capital, Beirut, where the shipment was being hidden."
The directorate indicated that "on the same date, one of the branch patrols conducted a raid on the warehouse and seized approximately 148 kg of hashish hidden in thyme bags. The quantity of narcotics was seized, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the individuals involved in the smuggling network and those connected to this operation under the supervision of the competent judiciary."
