Four people were stabbed today, Monday, during a service held at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in the suburb of Wakeley, western Sydney. New South Wales police stated that "two individuals were attacked," but NSW Ambulance later clarified that the number was four. Details of the attack have not yet been confirmed, but local media reported that the assailant has been arrested, while large crowds of people and many first responders remain at the scene. The stabbing was streamed live on the church's Facebook account, showing Father Mar Mari Emmanuel being attacked with a knife in the face as he was delivering a sermon in the Assyrian language at around 7 PM local time. Among the four injured were a man in his fifties, another in his thirties, a man in his twenties, and one in his sixties.
