UN Warns of "Catastrophic" Food Situation for Half of Gaza's Population

Half of Gaza's population is suffering from "catastrophic" hunger, with famine expected to strike the northern region "at any time" between now and May in the absence of urgent intervention to prevent it, according to a food security assessment supported by the United Nations. Approximately 1.1 million Palestinians are experiencing some of the highest levels of food insecurity, with "famine imminent in the northern areas and expected to occur at any time between mid-March and May 2024," according to the "Integrated Food Security Phase Classification" report prepared by the UN and relief agencies.
