The media office of Electricité du Liban issued a statement stating: "This is a final warning regarding the necessity of settling electricity bills by public administrations, public institutions, and including water authorities and others, under the threat of cutting electricity supply to those who fail to pay. In accordance with the laws and regulations in force, particularly Article 42 of the electricity supply subscription system, it is not permissible for Electricité du Liban to sell electric energy (as a commodity), even to public sector individuals, without collecting its price, regardless of the importance of this commodity for public interest and the provision of services to citizens. This is to maintain its financial balance and its determination to succeed in the national emergency plan to secure electricity for citizens.
Electricité du Liban, for the last time, reminds all public administrations, public institutions, water authorities, and other public sector individuals throughout Lebanon of the necessity to adhere to paying their electricity consumption bills to Electricité du Liban in cash Lebanese Lira (meaning not by zero transfers) to the institution's account with the Central Bank of Lebanon according to its directives, for both overdue bills and new bill issuances. Consequently, it urges them to regularize their status in this regard, otherwise it will be forced, according to the laws and procedures in force, to cut electricity supply to those who fail to pay.
Electricité du Liban also requests all public authorities and officials in the country to support the institution in this measure to prevent any disruption to its public budget, the financial balance in the national emergency plan for the electricity sector, and to maintain the continuity of its activities, financial capabilities, and financial regularity and public funds, in order to operate the public utility at the minimum possible level amid the ongoing difficult circumstances in the country, and to move forward with this reform plan."
