Former head of the "Progressive Socialist Party," Walid Jumblatt, mentioned in an interview with "OTV" that efforts are being made to meet with the head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," MP Gebran Bassil, and others to find a common formula to restore national unity and establish a socio-political plan for the country to avoid war. He emphasized that "the remarks I heard from Bassil are very encouraging, and together we can build several steps to reach an acceptable vision for the Lebanese interior. The Lebanese interior can unite its ranks and reject some hateful voices because we are currently in the most dangerous phase threatening Lebanon."
In an interview with the Al-Anbaa electronic website, Jumblatt noted that from his meetings with Presidents Nabih Berri and Najib Mikati, as well as with Bassil, "it has become clear that we may be lured into a war that could be worse than the war of 2006, when Lebanon had some sort of external and Arab protection, like France under President Jacques Chirac, King Abdullah, and Hosni Mubarak. Today, it seems that this Western campaign against Palestinians and Hamas under the guise of fighting terrorism spares no one. Therefore, there must be a minimum of convergence. We have found common ground on how to take some internal measures, such as repairing the government and certain appointments I personally suggested, the Higher Relief Committee, the Red Cross, and other basic procedural matters to support citizens and to face the worst. Throughout my political life, I have always started from the belief that the worst is yet to come."
