Google has largely replaced its Google Pay app with the Google Wallet app in 2022, but it continues to operate in several countries, including the United States. Now, the tech giant has announced that it will discontinue the Pay app in the United States on June 4, 2024, in an effort to simplify payment methods. After that date, it will only be available in Singapore and India due to the "unique needs of those countries," according to a company blog post.
The company noted that users will still be able to transfer their Google Pay balance to a bank account after June 4, 2024, via the Google Pay website. It stated, "Google Wallet has now largely replaced Google Pay, with five times the number of users in 180 countries. This is because the app can handle more than just payment transactions; in addition to credit and debit cards, it stores transit cards, driver's licenses, and virtual car keys... Thus, the Google Pay service will still be available but through Google Wallet."
