The United Nations announced on Sunday that 61 trucks carrying medical supplies, food, and water unloaded their cargo in northern Gaza on Saturday, after a halt in fighting allowed aid to enter the besieged territory. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated in a statement that 11 ambulances, three buses, and a flat medical bed were delivered to Al-Shifa Hospital, which has seen intense fighting in recent days, "to assist in evacuation operations."
The statement noted that 200 trucks were dispatched from Nitzana in Israel, with 187 having entered the Gaza Strip by local evening. It added, "As the ceasefire continues, humanitarian agencies are able to send more aid to and through Gaza," thanking the Palestinian and Egyptian Red Crescent Societies.
The day prior, when the temporary ceasefire began between Israel and Hamas to facilitate the exchange of detainees, 137 aid trucks were delivered to Gaza, according to the UN. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs welcomed the release of more detainees today and reiterated its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees.
