Earthquake of 6.8 Magnitude Off the Coast of Central America

The Ministry of Environment in the Republic of El Salvador reported that tremors measuring 6.8 magnitude occurred in the Pacific waters near the coasts of El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In its statement, the ministry ruled out the possibility of a tsunami risk for the coast of El Salvador. It added: "The final data available indicates that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of Usulután, approximately 66 kilometers south of Espino Beach. The epicenter of the tremors was located at a depth of 51 kilometers. Information confirms that there is no tsunami risk for the coast." According to the available data, the distance from the earthquake's epicenter to major residential areas along the coast is no less than 100 kilometers. The ministry noted that the consequences of the earthquake are currently being studied.
