"Lemon Watermelon" A Perfect Fruit for a Hot Day

A Japanese company has developed a type of watermelon called "Lemon Watermelon," which combines the sweetness and aroma of watermelon with a slight acidity of lemon. The Japanese horticultural company "Century Flowers" spent 5 years developing this variety, experimenting with various factors including cultivation methods and harvest times. The fruit is round in shape, covered with a watermelon-like rind but without longitudinal stripes, and its interior color is close to white. Currently, there are only five farmers in Hokkaido cultivating Lemon Watermelon, and they are expected to plant about 3,800 seeds this year. The fruit has reached Japanese stores, priced at up to $22 per piece. Some who have tried it say it has a slight acidity like lemon and a strong sweetness like watermelon, making it the perfect fruit for a hot day.
