Saudi Representative at the UN Security Council: We Call for a Decision to Stop the War in Gaza

The permanent representative of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulaziz Al-Wasil, announced today that the Arab group is calling for a decision under Chapter Seven that ensures Israel's compliance to cease the war in the Gaza Strip, according to the "Arab World" news agency. Al-Wasil emphasized in his speech before the UN Security Council that the incident involving the killing of relief workers from the World Central Kitchen is "not surprising given the perpetrator," stressing that the Arab group demands an international investigation into the incident. The Arab League's Council issued a decision on Wednesday calling on the Security Council to take action under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter to compel Israel to stop the war in Gaza, warning against any Israeli military operations in Rafah, which is sheltering more than 1.5 million displaced Palestinians. The Council stated in a statement following a meeting at the ambassadorial level in Cairo that "the invasion of Rafah will be considered an aggression against Arab national security as a whole... and will lead to the collapse of peace opportunities and the expansion of the conflict in the region."
