Title: Man Sentenced to Death for Killing His Wife 24 Hours After Marriage

The Tanta Criminal Court in Egypt referred the case of a man who killed his wife in the village of Nefya during Eid al-Fitr last year, 48 hours after their wedding, to the Grand Mufti after issuing a death sentence by hanging. The defense requested that the accused be placed in a specialized medical facility for treatment of psychological and neurological disorders, stating that the witnesses present at the time of the incident were not credible and should not be considered witnesses against the accused. The defense acknowledged the act of killing but argued that it was not intentional nor premeditated, explaining that the accused had requested his marital rights from his wife, who refused multiple times, leading him to lose his patience.

Meanwhile, the defense for the victim demanded the maximum penalty for the accused, asserting that he had planned the crime and persisted in it long enough to allow for contemplation. They emphasized that he only ended the act after delivering about 35 stab wounds, then changed his clothes and contacted his wife's brother, asking for retribution against the accused. The court subsequently referred the accused's case to the Grand Mufti, who upheld the court's decision, resulting in the issuance of a death sentence by hanging for the accused.
