Liverpool star Mohamed Salah expressed his happiness, emphasizing the importance of his team's 2-0 victory over Napoli on Tuesday, concluding the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Salah scored his team's first goal in the 85th minute, while his teammate Darwin Núñez added the second in stoppage time (90+8). The referee needed video technology to confirm Salah's goal, which marked the team's fifth consecutive win in the competition. However, they finished the group stage in second place behind Napoli due to head-to-head records, allowing both teams to advance to the round of 16.
Salah stated in remarks to BT Sport following the match: "It feels good to win against one of the best teams in the world. We just need to keep going." He added, "It's a good result for us, and we hope it will give us more confidence. We just need to focus on the league. In the end, we got a very important result. We played well against a tough team."
Salah admitted he was not aware that the goal he scored was credited to him, saying: "Honestly, I didn't know it was my goal because the ball was in. Thank you for confirming that! Anyone can score; the most important thing is the team." He added, "I think it’s important that we won today, we played a good game, we were quicker to handle the ball, and we also regained it quickly." He concluded: "We are not performing well in the league, but this will push us, and hopefully, we can achieve more."
