Sugar Substitutes May Increase the Risk of Cancer

Doctors continuously emphasize that sugar intake in the diet should be limited. As a result, some individuals attempt to use sugar substitutes that seem less harmful. Russian doctor Alexander Myasnikov points out that people are striving to adhere to a healthy diet as much as possible. Hence, they replace regular sugar with its substitutes, believing they are less harmful to health. However, this is not the case, according to Russian media reports quoting him.

According to him, the benefits of sugar substitutes are merely a myth. While they do contain fewer calories, they simultaneously cause insulin resistance, which affects the development of diabetes. Furthermore, the World Health Organization opposes the use of sugar substitutes, as they stimulate cancer development. He states, "The organization has issued an official warning: do not use sugar substitutes - they cause cancer, including plant-based substitutes."

Unfortunately, he notes that the fast pace of modern life leaves little time for home cooking, leading people to purchase semi-processed and ready-made foods. All of these contain artificial sweeteners. He adds, "The chewing gum we chew, candies, pastries, and tarts contain sugar substitutes and are sold everywhere. This is why it is dangerous." Additionally, rapid carbohydrates are widely used in food production, directly leading to insulin resistance and diabetes.
