Lebanon Acquits Russian Woman of Espionage Charges for Israel

Russian news agency "Russia Today" reported that a Russian woman in Lebanon has been acquitted in the case involving her husband, who is detained on charges of "espionage for Israel." The couple, along with their child, was arrested by Lebanese security forces at the end of July last year while attempting to leave Lebanon via Rafik Hariri International Airport.

According to a source at the Russian embassy in Beirut, a hearing for the couple's case was held in early February, resulting in the acquittal of the woman, who had been detained as an accomplice in her husband's alleged crime. The diplomats worked to protect their compatriots' interests and ensured the child’s safety. The husband, however, was sentenced to 8 years in prison for "espionage for Israel."

The source noted that last Saturday, the woman and her daughter left Lebanon after more than 6 months in detention. It was mentioned that Russian diplomats maintained close contact with the authorities, including the leadership of "Hezbollah," representatives of the army, and Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib. The diplomats also provided food and basic necessities for the mother and child, and secured lawyers and interpreters for them.
