Plants That Cause Seasonal Allergies: What Are They?

Many people suffer from seasonal allergy symptoms, especially during the spring. What plants might cause the symptoms of this type of allergy? In this regard, Russian doctor and allergy specialist Gulnara Mimetova stated, "Some people experience seasonal allergies due to exposure to pollen, which becomes airborne when certain trees and plants begin to bloom. This allergy causes them distressing symptoms."

She added, "According to statistics, allergic reactions occur in some individuals when exposed to pollen released by certain types of plants such as birch, hazel, oak trees, and catkin plants. Approximately 65% of individuals who suffer from seasonal allergy symptoms have allergic reactions to catkin pollen, about 50% are allergic to pollen from birch or hazel trees, and around 45% are allergic to oak tree pollen. Frequently, lilac is also a cause of allergies."

The doctor noted that dealing with seasonal allergens can be challenging at times, as pollen spreads in the air during certain times of the year. Therefore, she advised those suffering from this condition to reduce outdoor walks during the blooming periods of certain plants. Upon returning home from a walk, they should quickly change their clothes and shower to remove any pollen that may have stuck to their hair and bodies.

Mimetova emphasized that individuals suffering from seasonal allergy symptoms should consult specialized doctors for necessary tests to identify their allergens and obtain appropriate medications when needed.
