Iraqi Militia Claims to Target Oil Refineries in Haifa

An armed Iraqi militia announced today, Saturday, that it has targeted oil refineries in Haifa using drones. The group, which calls itself "Islamic Resistance in Iraq," stated in a communiqué: "We targeted the oil refineries in Haifa in our occupied lands at dawn today, Saturday." The statement emphasized the continuation of "bombarding the enemy strongholds as part of the second phase of operations against the occupation, supporting our people in Gaza, and in response to the Zionist atrocities against unarmed Palestinian civilians."

The "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" announced on March 27 that it had targeted the Israeli military site of Sbeer. The same group also targeted the Israeli Ministry of Defense building on March 24. The group's name gained prominence following the events of October 7, after the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas. They have claimed responsibility for most of the attacks on U.S. forces following the outbreak of the Gaza war, justifying their actions by citing U.S. support for Israel.

Among the most notable factions under this group are the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades and the al-Nujaba Movement. According to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, available evidence indicates that the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard plays a role in coordinating the operations of the "Islamic Resistance in Iraq."
