The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it has completed the destruction and closure of the largest tunnel of Hamas ever. According to the "Times of Israel," parts of the tunnel were blown up by combat engineers, while the Israeli army pumped concrete into the remaining underground passages. The discovered tunnel extends about four kilometers deep, reaching 50 meters underground in some areas, and appears to be wide enough for vehicles to pass through. The Israeli army stated in a statement that the leader of Hamas in Gaza, Yehya Sinwar, and his brother were directly involved in the construction of this tunnel, overseeing the planning operations. Hamas has heavily invested in tunnels as it lacks the resources or personnel necessary to confront the Israeli army in a conventional war, using the tunnels as military bases and arsenals, relying on them to move its forces undetected and protect its senior leaders. A 2022 document revealed that Hamas allocated a budget of one million dollars for tunnel entrances and underground workshops.
