Spanish media reports confirmed today that news about Kylian Mbappe, the Paris Saint-Germain star, joining Real Madrid poses a threat to the French player's chances of winning two significant awards this season. Mbappe has been experiencing limited playing time with Paris in recent weeks after announcing his departure for free in the summer to sign with the Merengues.
According to the Spanish newspaper "AS," if Mbappe continues to not participate for 90 minutes in the league with Paris, he risks losing both the Top Scorer award in Ligue 1 and the Golden Shoe. The newspaper pointed out that while it seems difficult for Mbappe to lose the Ligue 1 Top Scorer award given his 7-goal lead over the nearest competitor, the rising form of Jonathan David, the Lille star, could pose a threat to the Paris forward.
Mbappe has won the award for top scorer in France five consecutive times and could set a historic record if he wins it again. Regarding the Golden Shoe, less participation in matches would substantially weaken his chances of competing for an award he has never won before.
Currently, Mbappe ranks fourth in the Golden Shoe standings with 21 goals, trailing Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) with 30 goals in 2222 minutes by 9 goals. Lautaro Martinez (Inter Milan) also leads Mbappe, having scored 23 goals in 2036 minutes, while Serhou Guirassy (Stuttgart) ranks better than the Paris striker despite also having 21 goals due to scoring them in fewer minutes (1415) compared to Mbappe's 1757 minutes.
