Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced his support for Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election after meeting the former U.S. president in Florida late Friday night. Trump's campaign stated that Trump and Orban discussed "a wide range of issues that concern Hungary and the United States, including the critical importance of securing borders to protect the sovereignty of both countries." Orban noted that "Trump's return to the White House is the only way to bring peace to Ukraine." He added, "We need world leaders who are respected and can bring peace. He is one of them. Come back and bring us peace, Mr. President." Conversely, Trump remarked that "Victor is a great leader and respected around the world," adding that it is a great honor for him to host Orban. He continued: "Hungary is a safe country because of the strong immigration policies he has implemented, and as long as he is in power, it will always remain so." Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden criticized his Republican rival Donald Trump for meeting with Viktor Orban, stating that the Hungarian Prime Minister seeks to establish a "dictatorship." Relations between Orban and other EU member states are marked by disagreements over several issues, including his refusal to send weapons to Kyiv and his maintenance of economic ties with Moscow since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
