Tsitsipas Reaches Round of 16 After Victory Over Garin

Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked second, defeated Chilean Cristian Garin 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to the fourth round of the Miami Open tennis tournament on Monday, while Elena Rybakina looks to take another step toward a rare double win. Tsitsipas, who is still dealing with a shoulder issue and played his first match in Miami after receiving a bye in the first round and advancing to the second round due to his opponent's withdrawal, hit 12 aces and saved three of four break points during the two-hour match. Tsitsipas stated, "I waited a long time to play my first match here; I felt like I was on vacation last week in Miami, so I’m happy to be playing." He noted that "the match was tough against an opponent who has performed well against top players in the past."

Both players held serve until Tsitsipas broke Garin's serve to lead 5-3 in the first set, which he won without facing any break points. However, Garin challenged Tsitsipas early in the second set when the Greek player fell behind 0-40 and needed to win five consecutive points to hold serve and level the score at 1-1. He was unable to replicate this when serving at 4-5, allowing Garin to break his serve and force a deciding set. The Greek player missed two break opportunities in the opening game of the third set but achieved the necessary break at 4-4 when Garin made a double fault.
