Sunak Did Not Approve Home Secretary's Article on Protests

A spokesperson for British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak indicated that he "did not approve" an article written by Home Secretary Suella Braverman, in which she escalated a dispute with the police regarding their handling of pro-Palestinian marches over the weekend. The spokesperson pointed out that "the police are responsible for any disturbances that may occur after stating that there is not enough reason to prevent the march." He added, "He was not approved... referring to the Prime Minister's Office at 10 Downing Street," and continued, "Yes, the Prime Minister still has confidence in Braverman." In response to a question about whether the article represents government policy, the spokesperson stated, "I don't think the article's intention was to set a political stance. I believe positions on policy have not changed." Braverman had stated in an article in the Times that "there is a feeling that the police tend to sympathize with the protesters," and previously described pro-Palestinian demonstrations as "hate marches."
