On the first day of Eid al-Fitr, a Jordanian citizen killed his wife by strangulation in the Azraq area of central Jordan on Wednesday. The spokesperson for the Jordanian Public Security Directorate, Colonel Amer Al-Sartawy, stated to "Al Arabiya.net" that the murder occurred following family disputes between the couple, with the husband strangling his wife with his own hands. The husband turned himself in to the security authorities, and the body was transferred to forensic medicine as investigations began. Judicial sources indicated that the prosecutor of the Grand Criminal Court is expected to charge the husband with premeditated murder, punishable by execution by hanging. In 2023, the Jordanian Women’s Solidarity Institute reported 27 family-related crimes in Jordan, resulting in 25 victims (16 females and 9 males), noting that there were 3 attempted murders leading to 5 injuries. The institute documented the toll of family murder crimes in 2023 based on statements from the Public Security Directorate and various Jordanian media outlets.
