The Congolese club Mazembe announced on Saturday the death of its legend and former captain Renford Kalaba in a car accident. The club mourned in a statement: "Go in peace, Maestro. What a loss. Renford Kalaba did not survive a traffic accident on Saturday, April 13, in Zambia, between Kafue and Lusaka." The late midfielder previously won the CAF Champions League with Mazembe in 2015 and led Zambia to victory in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012, which is the only continental title for the "Copper Bullets" national team.
