UK lawmakers and members of the House of Lords have urged the government to ban the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, labeling it as a "terrorist organization," stating that this would be a step "towards restoring stability in the Middle East." More than 60 lawmakers from the House of Commons and members of the House of Lords wrote to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, saying, "Given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, banning the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has now become more urgent than ever." The letter, signed by prominent figures from the Conservative Party such as Ian Duncan Smith, David Davies, and David Jones, stated: "We call on our government to recognize the urgent need to classify the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization and to proceed with doing so. Such a decision would represent an important step towards peace, stability, and justice in the Middle East and beyond." Classifying the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization would mean that membership, attending its meetings, or displaying its insignia in public would become a criminal offense in the UK. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard is already subject to British sanctions.
