Opposition MPs: Lebanon's Sovereignty is a Red Line .. The Party Has No Right to Drag the Country into Wars

Opposition MPs affirmed in a statement that "Lebanon's sovereignty is a red line, and no group on Lebanese territory, specifically Hezbollah, has the right to drag the country into wars it cannot bear the consequences of." The following statement was issued by the Opposition MPs: "Lebanon's sovereignty is a red line, and the government bears the responsibility of exposing the country to the danger of war and destruction. There is no solution in the region without granting Palestinians their legitimate right to establish a state based on the principles of the Beirut Summit 2002. Time and again, the region falls into a cycle of violence and devastation that has persisted for 75 years, spilling rivers of blood, claiming innocent civilian lives, and casting dark shadows over the future of the region and its peoples.

As events directly related to Lebanon's stability and sovereignty accelerate, and with concerns about a confrontation potentially affecting the Lebanese people, the Opposition MPs emphasize the following:

1. Lebanon's sovereignty is a "red line," and no group on Lebanese territory, specifically Hezbollah, has the right to drag the country into wars it cannot bear the consequences of. Lebanon has always been one of the biggest supporters of the Palestinian cause and has paid the price for it. However, this does not mean accepting the violation of Lebanon's decision and sovereignty to achieve the goals of the resistance axis, which exploits the Palestinian cause from Arab lands and the blood of Arab youth to expand its influence in the region. The fragility of the situation in Lebanon, due to the ongoing political, economic, and financial crises, necessitates that everyone work to maintain Lebanon's sovereignty. Thus, the Opposition MPs stress the need to bolster internal unity by hastening the election of a president who can unite the Lebanese around a state project, prevent Lebanon from being dragged into wars by illegal forces, and reconstitute the authority capable of facing challenges.

2. The deafening silence of the remaining pillars of authority in Lebanon is nothing but an explicit expression of the tragic reality emerging from the control of the resistance team and its allies over state institutions. The government formed by this team bears responsibility for exposing Lebanon to the danger of war and destruction due to its inaction. The use of Lebanese territory linked to Iranian strategic interests is unacceptable, and any adventure undertaken by Hezbollah or any other armed factions, Lebanese or otherwise, to open a southern front under the banner of "unity of theaters," raised by the resistance axis led by Iran, is categorically rejected. Hezbollah or any Palestinian factions cannot dictate the decision of peace and war in Lebanon; only the Lebanese state with its constitutional institutions possesses the right to make this sovereign decision, and among its foremost duties is to protect Lebanon immediately by taking necessary measures to support and empower the Lebanese army along with international peacekeeping forces to fully implement resolution 1701.

3. There can be no possibility of peace or lasting stability in the Middle East without a fair and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. The international community must acknowledge this reality, put an end to its inaction, enforce the relevant international resolutions, and halt the cycle of violence and injustice that Israel has long perpetrated against the Palestinian people, which is now escalating and affecting innocent civilians. The establishment of an independent Palestinian state according to the two-state solution and the principle of land for peace, and granting Palestinians their legitimate rights to live in security and dignity is the only path to stability and the triumph of moderation over extremism, peace, and development over violence and bloodshed.

4. Lebanon, as one of the founding members of the Arab League, cannot but adhere to common Arab issues, foremost of which is the central Palestinian issue, supporting the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state and the right of return within the framework of the Arab peace initiative announced in the call of the Beirut summit in 2002."
