The National Institute for the Development of Festivals and Cultural and Artistic Events announced today, Saturday, that it is "impossible to organize the 38th edition of the Tunis International Book Fair," with the new date and location to be announced later. The fair was originally scheduled to take place from April 19 to April 28 at the Kram Exhibition Center.
In a statement to Reuters, the director of the institution, Hind Makrani, stated that the main reason for the postponement is the Kram Exhibition Center’s commitment to host another exhibition during the same period, explaining that "the book fair cannot be organized concurrently with any other exhibition at the same location to ensure it takes place in the best possible way."
She added that the decision made by the Kram Exhibition Center was unilateral and noted that "the state's limited resources and the absence of large venues in the capital prevented the 38th edition of the book fair from taking place on schedule."
She anticipated that the fair would be held at the end of the year, but this will be decided after consulting with all relevant parties. The previous edition of the Tunis International Book Fair was held from April 28 to May 7, with the participation of 279 publishing houses from 22 countries, including Iraq (the guest of honor).
