Thousands of people participated today, Saturday, in traditional peace marches during the Easter holiday in Germany, amid the war in Ukraine and Gaza, according to organizers and police. The police reported that the largest demonstration involved up to 3,500 people in Berlin. Approximately 1,500 demonstrators participated in Stuttgart (southwest), 850 in Munich (south), and 400 in Cologne (west).
Christian Gula, spokesman for the "Cooperative for Peace" network, stated that he is "satisfied" with the level of participation, which is comparable to last year. Participants called for a ceasefire in Ukraine and peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians. The tradition of peace marches in Germany dates back to the Cold War, reaching its peak between the late 1960s and early 1980s when up to three hundred thousand people protested annually against the nuclear arms race.
