Several areas in eastern Morocco experienced heavy rainfall yesterday, Thursday, leading to severe flooding that swept away cars in the streets, amid warnings from the General Directorate of Meteorology in the kingdom. The meteorological office reported that the weather conditions in the country were influenced by cold air masses in the upper atmosphere, resulting in the formation of unstable clouds and thunderstorm showers in areas of eastern Morocco, the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, and the southeastern slopes.
The rainfall amounts recorded over the last 12 hours were 20 mm in Errachidia, 12 mm in Jerfif, 11 mm in Ifrane, 10 mm in Taza, 5 mm in Oujda, and 2 mm in Bouarfa. These rains were accompanied by moderate to strong winds in the northeastern regions of the kingdom. The Drâa-Tafilalet region experienced flash floods, causing the closure of the road linking Riche to the Midelt province at the level of the bridge in Nazla on National Road No. 13.
Videos circulating on social media showed the floods sweeping away cars in the streets while their owners attempted to manage the situation.
