Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered the punishment of five senior police officials for negligence following a suicide bombing that resulted in the deaths of five Chinese engineers working at the site of a major dam construction. The attack in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province forced the "Power China" and "China Gezhouba Group" companies to suspend work on two dam construction projects after the assault that killed the five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver. Hundreds of Chinese workers are employed at the sites in Dasu and Diamer Bhasha, which are located 100 kilometers apart in the mountainous region. The Pakistani information minister confirmed at a press conference in Lahore that "the Prime Minister has ordered immediate measures against these officials," without specifying the nature of the punishments. The attack occurred last week just days after armed militants attempted to storm the offices of the Gwadar port in the southwest of the country, which is considered a cornerstone of Chinese investment in Pakistan.
