The United States to Increase Aircraft Carriers in the Middle East

The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that the United States will increase the number of its aircraft carriers deployed in the Middle East to two. A second carrier currently in the Indo-Pacific region will join the one already in the Gulf waters.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell stated in a press release that the aircraft carrier "Carl Vinson" will join the "Harry S. Truman" carrier in order to "continue to reinforce regional stability, deter any aggression, and protect the free flow of commerce in the region."

The department also indicated in the statement that Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the deployment of warplanes. Although the brief statement did not specify particular aircraft, U.S. officials who requested anonymity revealed that at least four B-2 bombers have been relocated to an American-British military base on Diego Garcia Island in the Indian Ocean.
