The leader of the Lebanese Forces Party, Samir Geagea, confirmed that Lebanon is experiencing difficult conditions at all levels and that any negligence in the required qualifications for the new president's personality is a continuation of the decline. In an interview with "Al-Ahram," Geagea pointed out that the Lebanese Forces' candidate is MP Michel Moawad, who is among the few candidates currently acceptable regionally and internationally and can restore the confidence of the Arab community, especially the Gulf community, and the international community in Lebanon. He emphasized his complete rejection of the arrival of "Free Patriotic Movement" leader MP Gebran Bassil or "Maronite Movement" leader Sleiman Franjieh to the position, regardless of the sacrifices.
He revealed that "Hezbollah" and its allies are unwilling to accept Samir Geagea as president at any cost. Geagea confirmed that there is no "veto" from the Lebanese Forces or the "Strong Republic" bloc against electing the Army Commander General Joseph Aoun as president, provided that a constitutional amendment is made. He expressed hope that caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati would be precise in exercising his powers and urged Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri to perform his duties and intervene to stop the obstruction by parliamentary blocs of the presidential election.
Speaking of Saad Hariri, the Future Movement leader, he stated, "Hariri has been completely out of the scene for six months and has not announced a single political stance, while there is coordination within the Future Movement on many positions." Geagea described Egypt's role in Lebanon as sweet and pleasant, saying, "This is a general feeling in Lebanon; Egypt does not hesitate to help Lebanon at all times, during the Beirut port explosion and during the COVID-19 crisis, and in all natural and unnatural circumstances."
Regarding the relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, he emphasized that it is "very old and began with the Maronite Patriarchate many decades ago. It is a special, deep relationship, and a lasting friendship. Currently, the kingdom is interested in Lebanon and does not interfere in internal details."
