While the issue of appointing the Chief of Staff in the Lebanese army and the military council has not been settled, and the possibility of its approval within the government remains uncertain without the consent of Defense Minister Maurice Slim, military circles indicated that the minister plays a crucial role in this matter. In this context, it is understood that there is a principled stance among spiritual authorities and political leaders against appointments during the presidential vacancy, and there has been no change in this position whatsoever.
Regarding the file of appointing advisor officers to military courts, informed sources told the newspaper Al-Liwaa that the defense minister is fulfilling his duties concerning the approval of proposed names for the essential reserve bodies of the military court and the investigative committee. Meanwhile, he requested the army leadership to reconsider the names of the proposed officers for the Military Court of Cassation and the individual military judges in the regions, after it was found that some among them do not possess legal licenses. The same sources noted that the military court can convene regardless of the minister's legal stance regarding the names of the Military Court of Cassation, emphasizing that the role of the judiciary and the court is to uphold justice. Therefore, military judges and members of the investigative committee should not refuse to implement their appointment and fulfill their duties.
