A unique edition of Truman Capote's "Breakfast at Tiffany's," embellished with a thousand diamonds, has been put up for sale for $1.5 million. Capote, the American author, was born a century ago and passed away in 1984. The book's cover is made of leather and adorned with 1,035 diamonds and one sapphire. This is the only signed copy of the 1958 novel "Breakfast at Tiffany's."
The cover, which took three years to create in collaboration with the British jewelry specialist Bentley and Skinner, was commissioned for the American company Lux Mantis, which specializes in rare and luxurious books. It is displayed until Sunday in a cage at the International Antiquarian Book Fair in New York.
The book is priced at $1.5 million and will not be auctioned or subject to negotiations. The diamonds on the cover are arranged to represent a part of the Manhattan map. The sapphire is placed on the cover at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 57th Street, where the famous Tiffany jewelry store is located, which was reopened in April 2023.
