The Alexandria Governorate in Egypt is on high alert today, Tuesday, to deal with any repercussions from the storm "Daniel," which is expected to hit the area with rain and winds. According to forecasts from the Meteorological Authority, Alexandria will experience weather fluctuations characterized by wind activity reaching speeds of 40-50 km/h, which will stir dust and sand, accompanied by light to moderate thunderstorms.
The Meteorological Authority predicts that the governorate will experience moderate rain, which may sometimes be thunderous, with continued activity of northwestern winds reaching speeds of 35-40 km/h.
In a statement issued today, the Alexandria Governorate urged citizens to exercise caution while driving during the rain, to reduce vehicle movement to allow for smooth operations of rainwater drainage vehicles, to avoid driving at speeds exceeding 60 km/h, and to maintain a greater safety distance than usual. Additionally, they advised against standing under old, dilapidated balconies and parking cars under trees or in areas where trees may fall.
Comments on the atmosphere:
In the past hours, the smell in the air in Egypt has sparked controversy, as many citizens noticed a strange odor early Tuesday morning, resembling that of sewage. Some linked the smell to storm "Daniel," which affected Egypt yesterday, Monday.
Dr. Menar Ghanem, a member of the Media Center of the Meteorological Authority, denied the claims circulating on social media regarding any connection between the widespread odor and the storm's repercussions. Ghanem explained that the consequences of storm Daniel are limited to dust, rain, and weather fluctuations, which some areas in Egypt have already experienced due to the winds and stirred sands from the storm that struck Libyan territories.
