A Spanish tourist was attacked and gang-raped by a group of at least seven men in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand while on holiday with her husband. The couple, who were touring on a motorcycle, had set up a tent in the remote area of Dumka when the attack occurred while they were sleeping. The husband, a Spaniard, stated that they were threatened with death by the attackers, who raped his wife, a Brazilian citizen of Spanish origin. In a video recorded from the hospital where they are receiving treatment, the husband said: "We were attacked in the tent, they beat us and held a knife to my neck saying they would kill us, and my wife was raped by seven men." The wife, who showed signs of bruising in the video, mentioned that they were also robbed during the assault. She added, "We didn't have much, the real goal was to rape me." The local police filed a report regarding the attack and gang rape, resulting in the arrest of at least three suspects so far. Police Inspector Pitamber Singh Kerwar told reporters: "We have arrested some people, and we will also catch the rest. The victim said about seven men were involved in the crime, and we have arrested three of them." The Spanish embassy in India has contacted the authorities and sent consular staff to the area to assist the victims.
