Two Deaths Due to Nipah Virus in India

An official from the Indian National Institute of Virology indicated today, Tuesday, that "Kerala has recorded two deaths due to the Nipah virus." The #UnionHealthMinistry confirmed that the deaths of two people due to fever in #Kerala's #Kozhikode were because of the #NipahVirus.

The official, who requested anonymity, stated that one person died this month while the other passed away on August 30. He added that two other members of the same family are suspected of being infected, and their samples have been sent for analysis. He mentioned that the Virology Institute has sent the report to the federal health ministry.

The deadly Nipah virus, which affects the brain, was first identified in 1999 during an outbreak among pig farmers and those in close contact with pigs in Malaysia and Singapore. The Nipah virus is transmitted to humans through direct contact with infected bats, pigs, or infected individuals.
