Saudi Arabia Seizes 6 Million Methamphetamine Tablets Hidden in Sweets and Nuts

The General Directorate for Drug Control in Saudi Arabia announced the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle over six million tablets of the drug methamphetamine, concealed within a shipment of sweets and nuts. The Saudi government agency stated that it seized 6,072,291 methamphetamine tablets in collaboration with its counterpart in Oman and in coordination with the Saudi Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority. It published images of the seized items. The directorate noted on its Twitter account that it arrested the recipients of the suspicious shipment in the Riyadh region, "who are a resident and a visitor holding a visa from Syria. They have been detained, and initial legal procedures have been taken against them, and they have been referred to the public prosecutor." Last June, Saudi authorities announced the seizure of more than one million tablets of methamphetamine hidden in a shipment of beehives in the Medina region.
