Sean Dyche, Everton's manager in the English Premier League, said last night that playing after the club's punishment, which involves a deduction of 10 points, is like a "new beginning." He confirmed that winning 1-0 against Nottingham Forest in the league has provided the club with confidence. This victory marked Everton's first win since the 10-point deduction due to financial breaches during the 2021-2022 season. Everton appealed the punishment last Friday.
Dyche told reporters, "It feels like a new beginning. What can we do until we receive new updates?" He spoke with the players and told them, "Look, there's nothing we can do about what has happened. We have no control over that. They fully understood it. We all agreed to accept it, and that's what they've done so far."
He added, "The first win after the penalty is very pleasing. It gives confidence to the fans, the group, and the players. They can still look at the league standings at some point and have to wait to know the outcome of the appeal. So, at the same time, we have to continue performing our task."
Everton currently sits in 18th place among the twenty teams in the Premier League with seven points from 14 matches, and they are aiming to distance themselves from the bottom three relegation spots before the end of the season.
