American rapper Lil Jon, whose real name is Jonathan H. Smith, converted to Islam while at the King Fahd Mosque in Los Angeles last Friday. A video clip circulated on social media showing Lil Jon reciting the Shahada in both Arabic and English, repeating the words after the mosque's Imam. The Imam then announced that he is now a part of the Islamic faith and embraced him amidst the takbir of the worshippers. Muslims welcomed Jon on social media, and he shared a post on his Instagram account, writing: "Thank you, my brothers and sisters, for your overflowing love and positivity." Lil Jon became the second well-known American to convert to Islam during the first week of Ramadan, following writer and activist Sean King and his wife.
