Rare and Painful Skin Disease... Treatment Available in This Drug

Novartis announced that two advanced-stage trials demonstrated that its anti-inflammatory drug "Cosentyx" alleviated the symptoms of a painful skin condition that results in the formation of nodules. The company stated in a press release that the previously approved medication for conditions such as psoriasis and arthritis showed rapid and sustained improvement in the cases of study participants suffering from pyoderma gangrenosum. This painful skin disease, for which few treatments are available, affects approximately 1% of the population, though it is difficult to diagnose. Alongside the drug "Entresto" for treating heart failure, "Cosentyx" is among the major revenue growth drivers for Novartis, with sales of this product rising 9% to reach $1.28 billion during the quarter from March to June. Novartis also mentioned that the phase three results of the trials have been submitted to regulatory authorities in Europe and will also be presented to relevant regulatory bodies in the United States this year to obtain approval for the drug's use in treating this condition.
