Today, the Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Committee in the Lebanese Parliament discussed the issue of the cessation of funding from some donor countries to the UNRWA, and the implications of this serious development affecting the Palestinian people both within Palestine and in diaspora countries, particularly Lebanon. The committee asserted that stopping financial support for UNRWA is a declaration of the failure of international legitimacy to uphold the framework of international humanitarian law, which should be beyond any justification.
The committee added, "The insistence on this step undermines the ethics of the United Nations and constitutes a crime against the Palestinian people, attempting to liquidate the Palestinian cause, along with encroachments on the basic rights of the Palestinian people regarding the right of return, identity, and the establishment of a Palestinian state based on international resolutions."
The committee called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants to "intervene immediately with the countries that have announced the cessation of funding for UNRWA to retract this step, based on adherence to international legitimacy and its resolutions, emphasizing the protection of the Palestinian people wherever they are, specifically their right to return, the establishment of their state, and the end of the occupation."
